Hey, I'm Jake Heilbrunn!


I’m an Author, TEDx Speaker, Surfer, and Email Marketing Nerd.

At my core, I’m just someone who loves words and storytelling. When I dropped out of college at 18, I had no idea that path would lead me to helping companies amplify their impact and income through email marketing. But as Steve Jobs famously said:

“You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”


My Story

After battling crippling anxiety and depression my first semester of college, I knew the conventional path—the one everyone I knew was following—wasn’t for me. After six months of deliberation, I made the scariest decision of my life: I left school, packed a backpack, and booked a one-way flight to Guatemala.


With no phone, understanding about three words of Spanish, and a desire for something different, I spent four months traveling and volunteering throughout Central America. That journey changed my life.


It inspired me to write my first book, Off the Beaten Trail. Think a young dude’s version of Eat, Pray, Love meets Into the Wild—but with a happy ending (I didn’t eat the berries). The process of writing, publishing, and promoting the book was transformative. I got it endorsed by two of my heroes (shout out to Jack Canfield and Chris Guillebeau), sold a few thousand copies, and most importantly, shared a message that I truly believed could help others.


From Author to Speaker

The book opened doors to speaking engagements—another way for me to share my message. I gave talks at schools, universities, and organizations and was invited to deliver a TEDx talk, How to Replace Anxiety with Purpose.

By the age of 23, I had spoken to over 15,000 people across six countries and hosted workshops for companies like REMAX, colleges like USC, and organizations like NAMI.


Discovering the Power of Email

While co-founding The Idea Collective (now Thought-Leader), I helped scale the company from zero to $2.5 million in revenue within two years—all through the power of email marketing. I was already in love with words by that point, but seeing how email and copy could drive real results and revenue was a game-changer for me.

I’ve since gone on to work with a wide range of companies and coaches, helping them generate over $10 million in revenue directly from email marketing. To me, email is game where I get to blend my love of storytelling, psychology, words and strategy.

Many of my clients had never made a dollar from email before working with me—and within a year, went on six and even seven figures.Sure, every company I work with wants to increase their bottom line, which email can certainly do. But it’s more than that.

It’s about amplifying a company’s mission, voice, and impact. THAT is what makes me jump out of bed every morning. And THAT is the power of email marketing.
